Because of the addition of Cu, this material is displaying very good resistance against reducing acids like phosphoric and sulfuric acid. The stainless steel is also resistant to pressure oxidation crevice and cracking oxidation.

The 904L high resistance against oxidation crevice is because it has a good quantity of nickel configuration. Grade 904L oxidation resistance with a 6 percent molybdenum element, is transitional between super austenitic grades. Additionally, the copper enhances the resistance to sulphuric acid and lessens the number of agents in a mild and aggressive environment. This grade is low resistance to nitric acid, which does not contain molybdenum.
