HASTELLOY C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizers such as ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated media (organic and inorganic), chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. It is also one of the few materials that withstand the corrosive effects of wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.

The specification for this special grade of fasteners is ASTM B574. There are different dimensions according to the different standards of the ASTM B574 UNS N10276 Fasteners. They can come in 3mm to 200mm length, M3 to M56 sizes or 3/6 inches to 2 inches thickness. The Hastelloy C276 Bolts and Nuts can be used in harsh and upset environments such as acidic, basic, brackish, and saltwater environments. The fasteners are heat-treated at a temperature range of 2020 degrees F and are quickly quenched. Similarly, these are worked harden with proper care and are readily hot and cold-formed. The material has a minimum yield strength of up to 379MPa and minimum tensile strength of up to 758MPa with an elongation rate of up to 60. 

It is used in flue gas desulfurization systems because of its excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions encountered in most scrubbers. C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting and to stress-corrosion cracking.
