About Monel
Monel Alloys are nickel-copper alloy that is very strong and doesn’t corrode in sea water, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, or alkalies, among other things. Used for marine engineering, equipment for processing chemicals and hydrocarbons, valves, pumps, shafts, fittings, fasteners, heat exchangers, and other things.
Properties of Monel
Monel is a single-phase, solid-solution binary alloy that has good mechanical properties even when it is below zero degrees Fahrenheit. Monel alloy 400 has a Poisson ratio of 0.32 and a specific gravity of 8.80. It can melt between 1300 and 1350 °C. The properties of Monel Alloy 400 material at room temperature are shown in the table below.

Mechanical properties of Monel alloy 400 at room temperature
Machinability – As Monel gets harder as it is worked on, it is very hard to machine. The same methods that are used to work with iron can also be used to work with Monel.
Welding – The best ways to weld Monel are with gas-arc welding, gas-metal-arc welding, metal-arc welding, and submerged-arc welding.
Forging – Monel can be forged, but only when certain conditions are met.
Hot Working – 648-1176°C (1200-2150°F) is the typical hot working temperature range for monel alloy. It is necessary to choose the ideal temperature before beginning heated work.
